Dear colleagues,

On Sunday, September 10, our thoughts will be united in reflection and gratitude as we mark National Firefighters’ Memorial Day. On this occasion, we remember and honour the brave firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty while protecting our communities.

This year, the challenges that the firefighting community has faced have been unprecedented. From fighting relentless wildfires to safeguarding communities, their dedication has shone brightly through the darkest moments. Their sacrifice, resilience, and dedication have reminded us of the extraordinary strength that lies within Parks Canada’s firefighting colleagues and the extended firefighting community across Canada and around the world. As we stand together in remembrance, let us extend our deepest appreciation to our fallen heroes who faced danger with courage and to their families and loved ones.

National Firefighters’ Memorial Day is a powerful reminder of the risks our firefighters take and the sacrifices they make to ensure the safety of our nation. As we continue our work of protecting and presenting our natural and cultural heritage, let us always remember and honour these remarkable individuals.
